James Cagney had a most unique screen presence with his intensity, capacity for introspection, and deep emotional wells, which differentiated him with his more reserved contemporaries. He was best-known for his gangster roles in films like 1931's Public Enemy, 1933's Lady Killer, 1938's Angels with Dirty Faces, and 1939's The Roaring Twenties; however, he also excelled in more light-hearted fare, such as 1935's A Midsummer Night's Dream, 1940's Torrid Zone, and 1942's Yankee Doodle Dandy, which garnered him a Best Actor Oscar.
